Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information Idle collects, how we use it, how it may be shared inside the app, and what choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Idle collects information needed to run the app, provide social features, support safety tools, and improve reliability.
Account information
When you create or use an Idle account, we may collect your email address, user ID, sign-in method, Apple-provided name or email when Apple makes it available during first-time sign-in, and authentication or session information needed to keep you signed in.
Idle uses Apple-provided identity information only to help create or sign in to your account. Existing Idle profile information is not overwritten by Apple sign-in data.
Profile and garage information
Idle lets you create a profile that other users may be able to see. Depending on what you add, this may include your display name, username or handle, home base or city, bio, profile photo, banner image, social links, interests, vehicle information, garage photos, and profile statistics such as meets hosted, meets attended, and connections.
You can control some profile visibility through Idle's privacy settings.
Meet and hosting information
When you create, browse, RSVP to, or interact with meets, Idle may collect and store meet titles, descriptions, dates, times, location names, cities, coordinates when provided, visibility settings, host information, RSVP status, flyers, flyer logos, parking plans, ride-out plans, tags, notes, updates, cancellations, and related host actions.
Meet information may be visible to other users depending on the meet's visibility, your relationship to the meet, and group membership rules.
Location information
Idle may use location information to support nearby meet discovery, maps and directions, distance or radius-based discovery, and better meet or staging recommendations.
Idle may store location-related information you provide or allow, such as a home base, city, or discovery coordinates. You can control iPhone location permission through iOS Settings.
Messages and statuses
Idle includes direct messaging and short message statuses. We may collect and store direct conversations, message bodies, sender and recipient identifiers, timestamps, read or unread state, message delivery state, replies, reactions, 24-hour status notes, and status replies.
Direct messages are intended for the people in that conversation. We may process messages for delivery, safety, abuse prevention, moderation, and app functionality.
Groups and group activity
If you use groups, Idle may collect group membership, group roles, join requests, invite activity, discussion posts and replies, group chat messages, group logos, and vehicle or verification information submitted with a private group request.
Private group access and group-only meet visibility depend on membership and permissions.
Photos and media
If you grant photo access or upload media, Idle may collect and store profile photos, profile banners, garage photos, meet flyers, flyer logos, parking-plan images, group logos, and verification photos for group requests.
Idle may compress or resize uploads to improve performance and storage efficiency.
Notifications and device information
If you allow notifications, Idle may collect and use device push tokens, notification preferences, notification delivery and read or unread state, and notification routing data, such as whether a notification opens a message, meet, group, or Activity.
Idle uses notifications for things like direct messages, meet reminders, host updates, group activity, connection activity, nearby meets, and safety or moderation notices.
Settings and preferences
Idle may store settings such as profile visibility, whether your full name, vehicle, social links, or attendance are shown, group invite and connection discovery preferences, nearby meet radius, preferred meet types, default RSVP intent, preferred maps app, notification toggles, upload quality, media and data preferences, and appearance-related settings.
Safety, moderation, and reports
To protect the community, Idle may collect and process information related to reports, blocks, moderation decisions, safety warnings, and potential abuse, spam, harassment, illegal activity, or unsafe driving-related content.
We may use automated tools, human review, and trusted service providers to help detect or respond to harmful behavior.
Website information
When you visit the Idle website, the website host may collect basic technical information needed to serve the site, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring page, date and time of visit, and basic server logs.
If Idle adds analytics, cookies, or advertising tools in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated.

3. How information is shared inside Idle
Idle is a social app, so some information is meant to be visible to other users.
- ProfilesDepending on your settings, your profile may be visible to everyone, connections, or only people who receive a direct share or have permitted access. You may also control whether your full name, primary vehicle, social links, and attendance are shown publicly.
- MeetsPublic meets may be visible to users in discovery areas of the app. Group-only meets are intended for users who have access to the relevant group. - ConnectionsIdle uses the term "connections" for social relationships in the app. Connection-related activity may affect what users can see, who can message whom, who appears in discovery, and what social context appears around meets.
4. Demo mode
Idle includes a demo mode for preview and testing. Demo mode is designed to stay on the device. Demo data should not be written to Idle's real account systems, and real account data and demo data are intended to remain separate.
5. Third-party services
Idle may rely on trusted third-party services to operate the app, including Supabase for authentication, database, storage, real-time features, and backend functions; Apple for App Store distribution, Sign in with Apple, push notifications, WeatherKit, device permissions, and iOS system services; map or navigation services such as Apple Maps; and moderation, infrastructure, or security service providers used to help operate and protect Idle.
These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
6. We do not sell personal information
Idle does not sell your personal information. Idle does not use your private direct messages for advertising.
If Idle introduces paid promotions, ads, or sponsored placements in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated to explain how those features work.
7. Data storage and security
Idle uses technical and organizational measures designed to protect user information. This includes backend access controls, authentication, storage rules, and privacy-sensitive routing for profiles, messages, groups, meets, media, and notifications.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your login information and device secure.
8. Data retention
Idle keeps information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account, show your profile, meets, messages, groups, and activity, support safety and moderation, protect security, meet legal obligations, and maintain backups, logs, and operational records.
Some content may remain for a period of time after deletion due to backups, legal requirements, abuse prevention, or technical limitations.
9. Account deletion
You may delete your Idle account from the app where available. When you delete your account, Idle will attempt to remove or disconnect account information associated with your profile.
Some information may be retained when necessary for legal, safety, security, fraud prevention, moderation, backup, or operational reasons. Content shared with other users, such as messages, group activity, meet history, or other social interactions, may not disappear from every place immediately or may remain in limited form where needed to preserve app integrity and safety.
10. Your choices
You can control certain information through Idle profile settings, Privacy & Safety settings, notification settings, media and upload settings, iOS Location permissions, iOS Photos permissions, iOS Notification permissions, blocking and reporting tools, and account deletion controls.
You can also contact us at idle@engineer.com for privacy-related requests.
11. Children's privacy
Idle is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, you may not use Idle. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Real-world meet safety
Idle helps users discover and organize real-world car meets, but Idle does not control users, vehicles, venues, roads, routes, parking areas, or real-world events.
Users are responsible for their own safety, conduct, transportation, and compliance with traffic laws. Idle may process meet and user information to help reduce abuse, unsafe behavior, illegal activity, or policy violations.
13. International users
Idle is operated from the United States. If you use Idle from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where Idle's service providers operate.
